summer and the pool

In my sister's back yard this August. This contraption is called a "kiddie wash" (I think that's what they called it). Jackie and Steve made it from something she saw on the internet. The hose is hooked up to the bottom tube and it flows up thru all the tubes and comes out in a spray. The kids run thru the middle and get wet. I thought it was very clever. I guess the strips of fabric at the end are supposed to be like the washers at the end of a car wash.

After Jackies grandchildren got wet, we went next door and took a swim in their neighbor's pool. The neighbors on either side have pools. The ones to the east were gone for a few days and gave permission for us to use their pool. It was beautiful. The one little grandson, I think his name is Cash was so excited, he ran to the diving board and was ready to jump in before his mother was ready. Jackie managed to get into the water to save him after he floundered around a bit. The next time, Jackie wanted to be there to get him before he nearly drowned. This meant that she was too close and he landed on top of her. I was a few strokes behind so that when they came up I heard him screaming. I thought he was just afraid of going under. Then I saw Jackies face. His chin had contacted with her forehead and she had blood streaming down over her eyes and cheek. It looked like a horror movie. Cash had hurt his chin and mouth, I took him away from Jackie and brought him to his mother - she has a months old baby and had to first find a safe place to put her down. It was quite a drama. We had to decide whether Jackie needed to go to the emergency room. Eventually we decided on butterfly bandages. She will have a scar near her hair line.

I was experimenting and got these three old pictures on the blog. I guess I'll leave them just for fun.

One of Vere's old pictures. He's actually very good at composing pictures.
