November 2017, Crib size quilt in Blue

This pattern is called a "string" quilt.   You make a pattern from thin material or from thin paper.  Then  you sew strips using the "sew and flip" method, using the pattern as a guide for size.  When  you've covered the foundation block and pressed, you square it up.  If the foundation is material,  you leave it, making a heavier quilt or if  you have a paper foundation, tear the paper away.  I used the thin paper from an old telephone book, 5 1/4 inches square.  When the sewing was finished, I sat out on the deck, enjoying the sun and pulling the paper away.  It can be messy, I let the wind blow the paper bits away.
