January 2023 Full size Flannel for Bruce

About 35 years ago I made this flannel crazy quilt for Bruce.   Clearly a quilt to be used indiscriminently.  A couple weeks ago Bruce brought it to me to ask  me to mend it a little.  I pulled out my big tub of flannel pieces and started sewing pieces, planning to just cover the places that were worn.  I realized there was very little "quilt" left and it was mostly rags - especially when I tried to smooth out the batting.  These top two pictures are of the batting, lumped in some places and swiss cheese everywhere else.  The whole thing was in rags.  Even the places that looked like the material was whole, was so thin it would be rags soon.  So I just started cutting squares of all sizes to make a whole new quilt.  The bottom picture is the new quilt.  It's not as big as the original quilt, but it is bright and warm and I know Bruce can wrap up in it for years and know that I love him.
