February, 2021. Two quilts one is 20" X 60" and the other 8' square

This first quilt is for Jill.  On skype, we had been talking about a quilt for her to use as a yoga mat.  She suggested neutrals with a little blue and green - no reds or yellows.  I have a lot of neutrals, grays and beige.  I also had this big piece of light blue, it looks like white here but it is pale blue.  I love to make the half square triangles, so this was a fun, fast quilt.  Two weeks.

This next quilt is made from selvedge edges.  I've been cutting the selvedge from my fabric for years.  Each strip is about an inch wide.  I had rolled the strips in to balls, and had 4 balls about the size of softballs.  I thought I'd have enough for a quilt and maybe a tote bag.  Turns out I had just enough for this one small quilt.
The top picture is the stack of blocks, the second is putting the blocks together, then the quilt with a shot of how the back looks.   I cut a square of white for the back, then a matching piece of batting.  Then I sewed the strips of selvedge one by one onto the batting side.  It makes a nice quilted backing along with the pieced, quilted front.  Then, of course it had to be squared up.  I had a huge piece of fabric, light blue stripe I was able to use to join the blocks.  I didn't want to use anything too stark to join the blocks, so this material was perfect.  You can see the light blue sashing on the back squares.  This quilt used a LOT of thread, and a LOT of time.  I probably won't make another one, but maybe a tote bag someday will be fun.
