Quilts from summer 2023

This quilt is from the box of strips that tend accumulate over the years.  It's called  "String" quilt.  They are fun to make, but I'm always glad when I've finished one and used up a ton of strips.  Good for my charity "Wrap a Smile".

This quilt made from flannel squares someone gave me.  It is, of course, very simple, but pretty and so soft..

This quilt I've been working on F.O.R.E.V.E.R!  I had this bag of 30's retro fabric just waiting for the right pattern.  I saw this variation of the Dresden Plate and decided this was it.  The petals, or "blades" are shorter and the middle circle is bigger.  I started by finding cute pictures on Pinterest and drawing the picture on the fabric for the center circle and then embroidering them on.  Fifty blocks!  You can imagine why it took me a long time - but it's fun to sit, rest, and embroider.

I then sewed the circle onto the plate center with button hole stitch, appliqued the plate onto the greenish fabric, then I quilted each, separate block and squared up the block.  The next step is to join the blocks with the "Quilt as you go" method.  It's easier to quilt the blocks, then join them into a quilt,  than quilting the Huge quilt on my small machine.

This block, I drew off a photo I have of grandkids, Mimi and Parker holding hands and facing the ocean waves at the Jersey Shore.  Love it.
