2017, Wall Hanging, Statue of Liberty, Portal to America

This year's theme for the Moab Museum quilt challenge was "Portals"  I was going to do and interesting door, but started thinking of the Statue of Liberty as the Portal to America.  Of course, Ellis Island was the definitive portal to America in the late 1800's but the statue is more interesting to depict.  I was going to drape the material for the robe but couldn't decide how to do it, so I just appliqued it flat and painted the detail.
