Alaska!!

The first picture I took in Alaska, just to show where we were, Klawock. It was the little store where they bought their fishing licences.
Imagine this: We left Moab about noon on Tuesday, the truck was full to the top and Tina and I, sitting in the back seat were surrounded with our suitcases, project bags, and pillows. We drove till about 4 am the next morning and got thru customs. This is where we met up with the other car, our fellow travelers. Then we drove till sometime that afternoon and drove the truck onto the ferry. We rode the ferry for 8 hours, had dinner, watched the scenery and stretched. It was wonderful. In Ketchican, we had an hour wait, went to WalMart (can you believe it?) then boarded another ferry for a 3 hour ride to Prince of Wales Island. We drove about 45 minutes, stopping once to watch the fish swarming in the river. We got to the lake and started unloading the two cars, taking all the stuff down a rough trail to the dock, loading the flat bottomed boat, then rowing across the lake, about a half hour trip. Four of us stayed there while one rowed back for another load and more people. We carried the stuff up a crooked, narrow trail to the cabin using flashlights. It was about 9 pm by this time, and very!!! dark as you can imagine.
We didn't find the matches until after the third and final trip across the lake. Then we lit the lanterns and found out that it was almost impossible to get the oil stove to work. It was cold and very damp, but at least not raining. By midnight we were sorted out enought to try and sleep. Tuesday noon, till Thursday midnight. It was about the travel, not the destination. More later.

Wow! I wouldn't have lasted through about half of all that!
