I've been concentrating on using up some of the prettier plaids in my collection and making small quilts for two purposes. The small baby quilts are for the Relief Society closet. When someone in the ward has a baby, we bring them a baby quilt in congratulations. The two small quilts shown along with the ones folded up beside them are for that. The blue one has random squares of fabric with farmyard scenes in it. This is obviously a boy's quilt and the other is a girl's
I'm also making twin size quilts for the Humanitarian center in Salt Lake. When we go up, I can take them there. There's usually a center in with a Deseret Industries store. These quilts will be bundled up and sent to various parts of the world along with the hygiene kits and baby layettes and other relief aids the church donates for disaster relief. During all of January and February, I cut and cut these plaid pieces into 4 1/2" squares and I had stacks and stacks of them. I still have couple small stacks, but I'm tired of them and am going to put together the quilts. I used to "tie" the quilts, but since I got the walking foot for my machine, I machine quilt them. It's faster and more fun. So that's what I've been doing, along with Relief Society visiting a lot of the time.
Saturday is another funeral which means the whole day is focused on cooking, serving and cleaning up the after-funeral lunch for the family. It wears me out.
