Val, Greg and Maureen and Thomas came to visit us. They had driven to St.George for his brother's wedding and stopped on their way back for a few days with us. It was May 17, the day after Val's birthday. The first thing Val saw was the traditional table cover (can't say cloth, as it's plastic) that we've had for birthdays for as long as I can remember. It has Christmas on one side and birthday on the other. We only used it for birthdays. Val was very excited to see it, it made her feel at home and like a little girl again. The day was warm, but pleasant. The family got to our house about 6:30 and after dinner the kids decorated the cake with sugar cutouts and the candles. Val remembered I never let them have the sugar, store bought decorations when they were little. I much preferred to decorate the cakes with frosting.
